News / Mid-Day/ News
Tokyo: The world's smallest baby boy, who was born in October in Japan weighing as much like an apple, is now ready for the outside world, his doctor said on Friday. Ryusuke Sekiya was delivered via emergency Caesarean section, after 24 weeks and five days of pregnancy as his mother Toshiko experienced hypertension. He weighed 258 grams. When Ryusuke was born on October 1, 2018, he measured 22 centimetres (8.66 inches) tall, and the medical staff kept him in a neonatal ICU. They used tubes to feed him, sometimes taking cotton swabs to apply his mother’s milk to his mouth. Nearly seven months later, the boy has grown 13 times in weight, now weighing over 3kgs. He will be released from Nagano Children's Hospital in central Japan over the weekend. Six-month-old Ryusuke Sekiya (C) is pictured with his parents one day before his scheduled discharge from a hospital in Azumino, Nagano prefecture on April 19, 2019. Ryusuke Sekiya was born on October 1, 2018, as the world's smallest bab..

Familiar modus operandi, but newer victims, that is the story behind a report in this paper about the Malad police arresting the mastermind behind a travel firm's scheme that duped 100 people. The mastermind, Arif Sayed, was held a week after cops arrested four people in connection with the Hyderabad-based travel firm Elite Group of Loyalty Services for duping more than 100 people from the city of Rs 1 crore on the pretext of providing them with gym memberships and holiday packages at discounted rates along with exciting gifts. This paper has followed such scams regularly. In 2017, we ran an extensive report on a top gastrointestinal surgeon with Holy Family Hospital, Bandra, Dr Bryan Sodder, who fell for an exhausting con called Priority International Holidays Club Pvt Ltd. In it, he and his wife were promised international travel and gym memberships at rock bottom prices. The modus operandi was the same, meeting prospective victims at a mall and then luring them to part with cash f..

Elections 2019: All is well, saffron alliance assures its workers

News / Mid-Day/ National
An image of Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray greeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going viral, especially among the saffron cadre. The aim is to assuage the situation on ground where party workers from both camps are still holding old grudges against each other. The Sena and BJP have been at loggerheads since 2014 Assembly polls in Maharashtra, launching verbal attacks at each other, leading to a split among party workers. At one point, the oldest political alliance inked on Hindutva agenda in the late 1980s was on the verge of a break-up. But, just ahead of 2019 general polls, the two parties buried their differences and entered a pre-poll alliance. Also Read: Akhilesh Yadav hits out at Narendra Modi, says it's time to take away 'Chowkidar's chowki' However, party workers are still unwilling to forget past bitterness and work together. Let's get the show on the coastal road, say Breach Candy locals

News / Mid-Day/ National
If it's Breach Candy, it must be the coastal road. It was a thunderous Thursday evening as locals, a majority from Breach Candy but several from Haji Ali, Warden Road and Nepean Sea Road, convened at Vaibhav building garden for a meeting. The hot button issue has divided the area, with one group called the Breach Candy Welfare Group protesting against the large number of trees to be cut at Tata Garden, for the project. The Welfare Group also wants the Breach Candy interchange to be shifted to Scandal Point (next to the garden) to save a portion of the garden from being sacrificed. This Thursday meeting though, "was more about support for the Coastal Road and development. We wanted a better understanding of the project," said Breach Candy chartered accountant (CA) Dr Mitil Chokshi, one of the organisers of the event. M Chokshi and R Jagtiani make a point Space ace Several residents first went to the terrace of Vaibhav building, where Executive Engineer (Coastal Road) Brihanmumbai Mu..

Speedbreaker didi lost sleep after 2 phases of LS polls: Modi

Business / Business Standard/ General News
Lashing out at TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said "speedbreaker didi" has lost her sleep after the first two phases of the Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal. Addressing an election rally here in South Dinajpur district, Modi accused the chief minister of fooling people in the name of 'ma, mati and manush' (mother, land and people). "Speedbreaker didi has lost her sleep after the reports that came in post the first and second phase of polling in the state," the prime minister told a well-attended rally. He also flayed Banerjee for allowing people from the "neighbouring country" to campaign for the Trinamool Congress in the state. "It is shameful that people from neighbouring country are campaigning for the TMC. This was done by the party to appease the minority community," Modi said. The prime minister criticised Banerjee for seeking proof of the Balakot air strikes in Pakistan, and asked her to, instead, collect evidence against those..

Ekta Kapoor's Mental Hai Kya in soup over 'offensive' title, poster

News / Mid-Day/ National
A day after the release of the poster of the movie 'Mental Hai Kya' starring Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao, the Indian Psychiatric Society has written to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), accusing the title of stereotyping mental health. The group has demanded changing the title, describing it as discriminatory, stigmatising and degrading to people suffering from mental disorders. In the letter, sent on Thursday, they have also requested CBFC to cut off any part that might be seen as violating and humiliating for people suffering from mental illness. 'Mental Hai Kya' is a comedy film produced by Ekta Kapoor and directed by Prakash Kovelamudi and is slated for a June 21 release. The poster of the movie was released on Wednesday, showing Ranaut and Rao with a blade on the tip of their tongues. Several psychiatrists have raised their eyebrows at the poster.
