Student within us must never die: PM Modi

Business / Business Standard/ General News
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday narrated stories of courage and strength to convey that 'age and disability' cannot be a hurdle in achieving goals. In his monthly Mann ki Baat radio address, he gave the example of a 105-year old woman who cleared 'level 4' examination in Kerala recently, a 12-year-old girl who scaled Mount Aconcagua in South America and a young man from Uttar Pradesh with physical disability who opened his own slipper manufacturing unit, to drive home his point. While narrating the story of 105-year-old Bhagirathi Amma, the prime minister said, "If we wish to progress in life, we should develop ourselves, if we wish to achieve something in life, the first pre-condition for that is the student within us must never die." He said there are several examples to show how women today are breaking "age-old shackles and attaining new heights". Modi referred to Kamya Karthikeyan (12), who scaled Mount Aconcagua, the highest peak of the Andes Mountains in South America, ....

RattanIndia seeks Rs 500cr from lenders to restart Nashik plant

Business / Business Standard/ General News
RattanIndia Power is looking to raise Rs 500 crore working capital from its existing lenders to resume 1,350-mw Sinnar thermal plant in Nashik, even as its creditors are working on a resolution plan for the debt-laden company. The company is looking at resuming operations as it has received an LoI (letter of intent) from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) for a 25-year power purchase agreement to supply 507 megawatt. Last year, RattanIndia had restructured the debt of its 1,350 mw thermal plant in Amravati in Maharashtra after roping in Goldman Sachs and Varde Partners, which came on board as equity investors taking over Rs 4,050 crore debt from existing lenders, who had pumped in Rs 6,574 crore into the project. Commissioned in June 2017, the 1,350-mw Sinnar plant - having a debt of around Rs 7,000 crore - has five units of 270 mw each. The plant was shut for the past two years. The management is keen to restart at least two units to meet the .....

MP: Liquor bottles to have barcodes to track transportation

Business / Business Standard/ General News
As part of the new liquor policy for fiscal 2020-21 announced by the Madhya Pradesh government on Saturday, barcodes will be introduced on alcohol bottles to track its supply from factory to outlet, a state minister said. The other highlight of the policy was the decision to open 15 grape wine outlets in tourist places. "We are going to introduce barcodes on liquor bottles as announced in the new excise policy for FY 2020-21. This would help the Excise department track liquor supply from the factory to warehouses or depots and further to contractors as we will have records of each bottle," Minister for Excise Brijendra Singh Rathore told PTI on Sunday. He said contractors will be given online transit permits in order to track the consignment. Rathore denied news reports that the new excise policy would allow doorstep delivery of alcohol through online platforms. "The online system is only for mutual transactions between liquor contractors and the excise department. It .....

Sexuality is not just about sex: 'Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan' director

Business / Business Standard/ General News
Debutant director Hitesh Kewalya says sex is merely an aspect of sexuality and as long as a film covers the larger concept, one can't go crass. Hitesh, who made his debut with "Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan", said many people in the society tend to mix sexuality with sex which muddles the conversation. "Sexuality is not just about sex. So that's the line. As long as you're talking about sexuality, it can never go crass because that is natural. When you talk about sex, it's a different thing. I'm not saying there can't be a film which only talks about sex. That's an aspect of sexuality. That is what one needs to be aware of. "When you're writing (a film) like this, we have to be sensitive about that. Once you are aware of it, and when you are writing it, you keep checking and rechecking it. If you're aware of that, then you can control the communication and hope it doesn't go wrong. I'm not saying it can't go wrong, but it'll never go crass," Hitesh told PTI in an interview .....
