Meghalaya BJP urges Shah to exclude state from CAB's purview

Business / Business Standard/ General News
The Meghalaya unit of the BJP has urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to exclude the state from the purview of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, that is proposed to be tabled during the Winter session of the Parliament. In a letter to Shah on Thursday, state BJP general secretary Bashailang Khongwir urged him to uphold the special provisions of the indigenous people of Meghalaya. "The tribals of Meghalaya, like in other states, deserve due protection. Placing Meghalaya in line with other big and progressive states of the nation, where the CAB is expected to serve the greater interest of humanity, is not in the spirit of the BJP party," he said. The BJP, with two MLAs in the state Assembly, is part of the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government led by National People's Party president Conrad K Sangma and supported by regional parties. Khongwir said there are speculations that Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram may be exempted from the CAB. "The .....

GDR manipulation: Bhoruka Aluminium, its officials fined Rs 10.65 cr by Sebi

Business / Business Standard/ General News
Capital markets regulator Sebi has imposed a total penalty of Rs 10.65 crore on Bhoruka Aluminium Ltd and its officials in a matter related to manipulation in issuance of global depository receipts (GDR). The regulator in a probe conducted between November-December 2010 noted that the firm had issued 1.12 million GDRs amounting to USD 10.38 million (around Rs 74 crore) and the entire GDR issue was subscribed by only one entity, Vintage FZE. It was observed that the subscription amount was paid by Vintage on obtaining a loan from European American Investment (EURAM) Bank. Besides, the loan paid by Vintage was secured by pledge agreement between Bhoruka Aluminium and EURAM Bank. Sebi noted that GDR issue would not have been subscribed if the firm had not given such security towards the loan taken by Vintage. It further found that the firm made false and misleading corporate announcements and suppressed the material and price sensitive informations. Sebi said the scheme of arrangement ....
