Valtteri Bottas won a chaotic season-opening Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday while Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton finished fourth after getting a late time penalty. Bottas took a knee as he received the winners' trophy and the podium trio held up a black T-shirt with "End Racism" written on it. The race was interrupted three times by a safety car and nine of 20 drivers abandoned, including both Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Alexander Albon  who tried to overtake Hamilton on the outside with 10 laps left, touched wheels and flew off track. "I dodged a few bullets today," Bottas said after the eighth F1 win of his career. Hamilton was given a five-second time penalty for causing the collision - dropping from second to fourth - having earlier been hit with a three-place grid penalty after an incident in Saturday's qualifying was reviewed by stewards. Although Bottas started from pole position and Hamilton from fifth, it looked like a straight fight between the two Mercedes drive..

Representing Mumbai at the National Hockey Championships has always been a matter of pride and the list of India stalwarts this city has contributed over the past, is endless. However, Mumbai hockey teams will not be part of the Nationals now. The Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd (MHAL) has decided against legally contesting Hockey India's (HI) move to withdraw MHAL's associate membership and recognise Hockey Maharashtra as the state's sole representative body for the sport as per the Lodha Panel's one-state-one-unit recommendation. The HI directive, issued in January, came into effect on Wednesday. Vidarbha Hockey Association, whose membership was also similarly cancelled, have approached the High Court. Hoping for a mid-August resumption of camps for its Olympics core group, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) office-bearers will meet on July 15 to review the situation and explore the limited options left with them amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The NRAI has recently released a list of 34 shooters who will be training separately for the quadrennial sporting extravaganza, scheduled to be held next summer after the COVID-19 pandemic pushed the Games back by a year. These shooters form the core group for the Olympics. "There is a meeting on July 15 where the NRAI officials will review the situation, and explore the few options they have on their plate as far as resumption of camps is concerned," a source close to shooting sport's apex body in the country told PTI. "At first the plan was to restart around mid-July but with the surge in coronavirus cases in India, things did not take off the way we expected. "So now the aim is to start after the Independence Day depending on how th..

Brooklyn Nets center DeAndre Jordan will not play again this season and teammate Spencer Dinwiddie's participation is also in doubt after both tested positive for the coronavirus on Monday. The NBA is planning to go ahead with its restart plans at Disney World in Orlando on July 30, despite Florida is battling a surge in coronavirus cases in the past few days. "Found out last night and confirmed again today that I've tested positive for Covid while being back in market. As a result of this, I will not be in Orlando for the resumption of the season," Jordan said Monday on Twitter. Guard Dinwiddie told sports news site The Athletic that he had experienced symptoms "including fever and chest tightness". He said it remained unclear whether he would be able to play in Orlando, where 22 teams will be based for the remainder of the season. Players are due to travel to Florida for training camp in early July, and the teams will play games without fans in a "bubble" designed to shield players a..

Seven months after they last competed in earnest, the Formula One circus will push a post-lockdown reset button to open the 2020 season in Austria on Sunday. The event at Spielberg is being held on its original calendar date, but is not the once-anticipated 11th round of the championship, but the first—a season-opener delayed by the global COVID-19 pandemic. More than three months after the Australian Grand Prix was abandoned on the eve of opening practice in Melbourne, the race in the Styrian Alps will be run behind closed doors, without fans, sponsors' agents and guests and only a handful of reporters restricted to the media centre. The usual high-rise motor homes will be replaced by tents and awnings while the teams, cut to 80 members and all in protective gear, will operate in sanitised "bubbles within bubbles" in a paddock bereft of human contact and the usual swell of rumour and speculation. For all involved, who are tested four days before the event and five days later, it..

American golfer Paige Spiranac has revealed that partner Steven Tinoco doesn't have a problem with her sex symbol tag. "I met him [Steven] at the start of my career, so we have done this entire thing together. He is so understanding and knows this is a business for me. He will say, 'Hey, show a little more cleavage,' " Paige recently told the New York Post. In 2016, Steven proposed to her during a holiday in Dubai. Meanwhile, Paige, who has 2.6 million Instagram followers, is proud of the fact that many female golf influencers are following in her footsteps — flaunting trick shots, swings and sometimes — golf fashion. "When I started my pro career, I didn't have any financial backing so I needed to leverage my social media. I started out with good intentions. Then, the Insta-golf girl morphed into something I wasn't really proud of, where girls who aren't into golf started posing to get followers. These girls are out there making golf cool. We are getting more women into go..

India needs a Sachin Tendulkar in every sport to achieve its dream of becoming an Olympic power, vice-president of Indian Olympic Association and President of Athletics Federation of India Adille Sumariwalla said on Tuesday. Speaking about India's chances at the Tokyo Olympics to mark the International Olympic Day during a star-studded webinar organised by Sports For All, Sumariwalla further added: "Every sport probably already has several Sachin Tendulkars. But each of them needs the right platform to showcase his or her talent (and become world champions)." He agreed that money may or may not buy the country medals but a holistic ecosystem in sport would certainly do so in the long run. "We need the best of both, hard and soft, infrastructure, especially at the grassroots level," he averred, praising SFA's efforts to place emphasis on this aspect. Star and Disney India's Deep Mukherjee, former CEO of CII's Making India Play initiative, too pushed for a more bottom up approach towards..
