P&W partners AIESL for maintenance of all types of engines

Aircraft engine maker Pratt & Whitney has partnered with Air India Engineering Services Ltd for maintenance of all types of engines, including those powering A320 neos, according to a source. The two companies are likely to make a joint announcement about the partnership soon, the source told PTI. A320 neo planes, powered by P&W engines, have been grappling with snags for nearly four years. A substantial number of such neos are operated in India by IndiGo and GoAir. P&W already has a tie-up with Air India Engineering Services Ltd (AIESL) for maintenance of its 4056 engine model. These engines power Boeing 747-series aircraft. Once the new partnership is in place, AIESL would be carrying out maintenance work for all types of engines manufactured by P&W. "P&W and AIESL have entered into an agreement under which the latter will maintain P&W engines in the country. Shopkeeper shot dead by robbers in Delhi's Fatehpur Beri

A 47-year-old provision store owner was shot dead allegedly by unidentified persons while he was trying to avert a robbery bid in south Delhi's Fatehpur Beri area, police said on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Ravi Kumar Singhal, a resident of Dera village, they said. Police got information regarding a firing incident at Fatehpur Beri area on Thursday at around 10:15 pm. "Police rushed to the spot and found that Singhal, a grocery shop owner, had sustained a bullet injury. His helper Bhagwan Dass, a resident of village Dera, also got injured in the incident," Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Atul Kumar Thakur said. One empty cartridge was recovered from the spot, the DCP said. Singhal was shifted to Safdarjung Hospital where he was declared brought dead. He sustained a single gunshot wound. Dass' statement was recorded and he stated that on Thursday night around 10 pm, Singhal closed his store and kept a bag containing cash on the stairs. Six persons have been arrested for allegedly abusing and attacking journalists two days ago when they had gone to speak to the family of a woman who had died after falling into an open drain, police said on Friday. The arrests were made on Thursday, a day after the incident in Bhagat Singh Nagar in suburban Oshiwara, they said. Journalists, mostly from electronic media, had gone to the house of the 19-year-old woman, who had died after falling into an open drain on Tuesday, to speak to her mother. After visiting the woman's home, the journalists were returning to the spot where they had parked their vehicles when suddenly a group of around 10-15 people stopped them and allegedly abused them. A 50-year-old man was awarded life sentence by a POCSO court here for raping a nine-year-old girl while he was staying at her parents' house in May 2019. Following a trial that lasted nearly nine months, the court of Special Judge Kailash Chand Misra also imposed a penalty of Rs. 30,000 on the convict, who is a government employee in the Archaeological department, while delivering the verdict on Thursday. The special court set up to deal with cases under the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, held the man guilty of raping his relative's minor daughter on May 14, 2019 at their house in Kota city when the child's mother who is a doctor was away at work, special public prosecutor, POCSO court-V Suresh Verma said. The man was staying as a guest at their house at that time.The minor survivor narrated the incident on May 18, 2019 to her mother who filed a report the next day at the R.K. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has for the first time proposed testing of aviation personnel for psychoactive substances such as cannabis, opioids and their variants, officials said. This is in line with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) policy and procedures which has already been prescribed by other leading aviation agencies such as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the USA and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). According to an official statement, random test will be carried out under the supervision of the DGCA officers at laboratories authorised by the aviation watchdog and will cover 10 per cent of employees of each organisation in a period of one year. The Nagaland Lokayukta has ordered a preliminary inquiry to be conducted by the chief minister into allegations that Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton was involved in the appointment of over 1,100 constables in the police department in violation of norms. Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has been asked to submit his report in the form of an affidavit before the next date of hearing. The order was signed by the Lokayukta of Nagaland Justice Uma Nath Singh on Thursday while taking cognizance of a complaint filed by Vicca S Aye. Aye had lodged the complaint against Patton, who is in-charge of the home department, on Wednesday. In a bid to ensure that jail inmates have better living conditions, the state government has decided to launch in-house radio stations in all 57 correctional homes. According to Correctional Home department sources, the decision has been taken after the success of a pilot project at the Dum Dum Central Correctional Home recently. "The project has been a huge success at Dum Dum Central Jail. So it was decided that the project would be extended to other prisons of the state in a phased manner," State Correctional Home minister Ujjwal Biswas said. While elaborating about the project, Biswas said, the jail department with the help of an NGO is training inmates to work as radio jockeys. A room has been provided inside the jail premises with musical equipment. The work carried out under the water conservation scheme 'Jalyukta Shivar' by the previous BJP-led government in Maharashtra was of "substandard quality", a minister said on Friday. Water Resources Minister Jayant Patil said conservation work carried out under the scheme is eligible for inquiry. 'Jalyukta Shivar' was the flagship water conservation scheme of the Devendra Fadnavis government aimed at making Maharashtra drought-free. The project involved deepening and widening of streams, construction of cement and earthen stop dams, work on nullahs and digging of farm ponds. One person was arrested on Friday in connection with the killing of an engineering student in the posh Gomti Nagar locality of the Uttar Pradesh capital, police said on Friday.
