Pragya Thakur: Those refer Hindutva as terrorism are anti-nationals

News / Mid-Day/ National
Bhopal: A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi defended Pragya Singh Thakur's candidature from Bhopal Lok Sabha seat, she said that those who refer Hindutva as terrorism are anti-nationals. "The riots of 1984 were not riots but a massacre. A guilty of those riots is the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. Those who refer to Hindutva as terrorism are anti-nationals, anti-Army and anti-religion. These anti-Hindutva and anti-society people should be concerned about their end," Pragya told reporters. On Friday, Modi in a television interview said, "When Indira Gandhi died in 1984, her son said when a big tree falls, the earth shakes. Thereafter, there were thousands of Sikhs who were massacred. Was it not terror? Was it not terror unleashed by a few people? Despite that he was made the Prime Minister and the neutral media never asked a question like it is doing now." 'ATS acted against Pragya Thakur under pressure from UPA government'

News / Mid-Day/ National
Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut on Saturday alleged that late Hemant Karkare-led Anti Terror Squad (ATS) acted against Pragya Singh Thakur in the Malegaon blast case under pressure from the UPA government. Thakur is BJP's candidate from Bhopal Lok Sabha constituency. Raut told ANI, "Congress was in power then. Everyone knows that ATS was under pressure". Defending Thakur, Raut advocated that people should feel her pain. "We should understand Sadhvi's feelings and her pain," Raid said here. Hitting out at the Congress for using the word 'Hindu terror', the Shiv Sena leader said that the action against Thakur was unjustified. "The way the woman was harassed and tortured, it does not fit in any rule of law. Then you (the Congress leaders) started using words like Hindu terror!" The Shiv Sena leader said that terrorism has no religion and it was unfair to link terrorism to any religion. "We never supported linking terrorism with any religion," he stressed. Depleted India hope for substantial medals but unlikely to match 2017 success in Asian C'ships

Business / Business Standard/ General News
A severely depleted Indian contingent is unlikely to repeat its unprecedented top-of-the-table finish in the last edition but is still expected to win a substantial number of medals when the Asian Athletics Championships begins here on Sunday. India had finished on top of the table with a record-breaking haul of 29 medals (12 gold, 5 silver, 12 bronze) in the 2017 Championships held in Bhubaneswar. China had finished second with 20 medals. But this time, the 42-member Indian team is not expected to achieve that kind of a success with several athletes, including star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, missing out of the continental flagship event due to various reasons, including injuries. The biggest name in Indian athletics, Neeraj has suffered an elbow sprain during practice in Patiala and he is not defending the title he had won in 2017. National record holders Dharun Ayyasamy (men's 400m Hurdles), M Sreeshankar (men's long jump) and Asian Games 800m gold medallist Manjit Singh were .....

Neurologist Anil Prasad, 62, of Mandeville, Louisiana, was charged with one count of prescribing controlled substances outside the course of professional practice for no legitimate purpose and one count of conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud, according to US Attorney Peter G. BJP asks Rahul Gandhi to come clean on his citizenship, qualification

New Delhi: Citing a complaint filed against Rahul Gandhi, the BJP Saturday raised questions on the Congress president's citizenship and educational qualification, and asked him to come clean on the matter. The BJP's reaction comes in the wake of the complaint filed with returning officer in Amethi seat against Gandhi's candidature in which allegations and objections have been made about his citizenship and qualification. The returning officer (RO) has fixed Monday as the next date of hearing on the matter. BJP spokesperson G V L Narasimha Rao told reporters it was "stunning" that Gandhi's lawyer sought time to reply to the objections. "These are serious allegations. Is Rahul Gandhi an Indian citizen or not? Did he ever become a British citizen? He should come out with the real story," he said. There was no immediate reaction from the Congress. Sidhu: Is Modi a PM or business development manager of Ambani, Adani

News / Mid-Day/ National
New Delhi: The Congress on Saturday fired a fresh salvo at the BJP, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of favouring private firms over government companies in giving defence contracts. "The government is favouring private entities over the government firms. The private companies are minting millions. The Prime Minister had coined a slogan, 'Na Khaunga, Naa Khilaunga' which has fallen apart," Congress leader and Punjab Cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu told reporters in New Delhi. Taking a jibe at Prime Minister Modi's 'Mein Bhi Chowkidar' (I too am a watchman) campaign, Sidhu claimed that the 'Chowkidar' is found outside rich houses where the poor are prohibited. Reading out a media report, Sidhu alleged that Modi travelled to 55 countries with businessmen Anil Ambani and Gautam Adani, where 18 agreements on defence projects were signed. "In 2015, Modi went to Russia with Ambani. Reliance defence, which has a debt of Rs 7,500 crore, signed the deal for an air-defence system wit..

Piyush Goyal: Mayawati is frustrated, desperate to do or say anything

News / Mid-Day/ National
Ahmedabad: Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday hit out at BSP supremo Mayawati for her comments on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying she is "frustrated". "Mayawati has become frustrated. She is desperate and is ready to do or say anything. The people of Uttar Pradesh have rejected caste-based politics. This is an unethical alliance (between SP and BSP) and the truth is that the two parties are working against each other's interests," Goyal told reporters. In reference to Mayawati yesterday calling Mulayam the only "real" backward community leader in the country and not a "fake OBC" leader like Modi, Goyal recalled that it was the same SP founder who had said in the Lok Sabha that he wanted to see Modi get a second term. While addressing a joint rally in Mainpuri on Friday, Mayawati had said, "There is no doubt that he (Mulayam) has joined people from all groups of the society under the SP banner. Amethi EC postpones Rahul Gandhi's nomination paper scrutiny to Apr 22

News / Mid-Day/ National
Amethi: Amethi Returning Officer Ram Manohar Mishra has ordered the postponement of scrutiny of Congress president Rahul Gandhi's nomination papers to April 22. An Independent candidate, Dhruv Lal, has filed a complaint alleging discrepancies in Rahul's candidature. "There are three basic issues we have raised," Ravi Prakash, who is Lal's lawyer, told ANI. One of the issues he has raised is on the "basis of a certificate of incorporation of a company registered in the UK wherein he has declared himself a UK citizen," Prakash alleged. He said that under the Representation of People Act, a non-Indian citizen is barred from contesting elections in the country. "On what basis has he become a British citizen? And, how did he obtain Indian citizenship now? Unless there is clarity over the matter, we have requested the Returning Officer not to accept Rahul Gandhi's nomination papers," Prakash said. The lawyer alleged that there are no details mentioned in Rahul's election affidavit about ..

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Saturday dismissed the bail plea of Sushen Mohan Gupta, an alleged defence agent arrested in the Rs 3,600 crore VVIP chopper case. He was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Narendra Modi: I had erred in judging Mamata Banerjee earlier

News / Mid-Day/ National
Buniyadpur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said he had earlier erred in judging Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee as he used to consider her an embodiment of simplicity who wanted to free the people of West Bengal from the rule of the Leftists, but realised his mistake once he got to know of her misdeeds after ascending to the high office. Addressing an election meeting in this town in South Dinajpur district, Modi said the people had reposed a lot of faith in 'Mamata didi', who had hoodwinked the "Ma, Mati and Manush" (mother, soil and people -- Banerjee' pet slogan) of the state. "It is not that you have alone made the mistake. I have also equally erred. When I used to see her on television, and meet her from time to time, I used to think she is the true embodiment of simplicity, hardworking, well-meaning, and genuinely interested in Bengal's development. "I also used to think she wants to free the people from the rule of the Leftists. However, after I became the ..
