Kandla Nijhowne I’m a staunch smoothie devotee. It’s a delightfully cool tuck-in with minimal effort and maximum pleasure. Adding a seasonal fruit to the usual ingredients lends a totally new dimension, so in step my favourite apricots! These golden orbs are blissfully fragrant, sweet and juicy. Once blended into a smoothie, they add a tangy appeal to the healthy glassful. I even pop in some strawberries when I can lay my hands on them. The more the merrier? Solid foods may help infants sleep longer

News / Tribune/ Life & Style
Infants introduced to solid foods early may have lesser sleep problems as compared to those who are breastfed, a new study has found. The researchers found that babies introduced to solid foods early slept longer and woke less frequently at night and suffered fewer serious sleep problems than those exclusively breastfed for around the first six months of life. "While the official guidance is that starting solid foods won't make babies more likely to sleep through the night, this study suggests that this advice needs to be re-examined in light of the evidence we have gathered," said lead author Gideon Lack, professor at the King's College London. For the study published in the journal JAMA Pediatrics, the researchers involved 1,303 exclusively breastfed three-month-olds who were divided into two groups.  One group followed standard infant feeding advice and was encouraged to exclusively breastfeed for around six months. The second group, while continuing to breastfeed, ..

Jasmine Singh When it comes to women and motor-racing, let’s admit they are not taken too seriously! The tag of being clumsy drivers is hard to avoid and the ‘dangerous sport’ isn’t considered a woman’s domain.  This glaring stereotype has been challenged by many women riders and bikers from the region, who have successfully taken top positions on the podium and made machines their best friends.  Shifting gears  Nidhi Aulakh from Chandigarh has not only taken part in various motorsport competitions, but has also won many. “Even though there hasn’t been a tremendous change, the number of women participants at motorsports events has gone up by three times,” she says.  This was validated at the recently concluded 21st JK Tyre National racing championship, where an all-girl team of six participants scripted history when they drove the Formula LGB cars at the Kari Motor Speedway. Neetu Chandra, black belt 4th Dan, is a renowned Taekwondo player who represented India in the Asian Games in 1997.  However, the actress is not happy with the Taekwondo Federation of India. The reason being that there were no selection trials held for the Asian Games this year. The deadline to submit the list to the IOA was June 30. And in what is clearly a violation, the TFI did the trials from July 5 to 7. Neetu shares, “This is clearly an attempt to subvert the process. There are athletes who have been preparing to be part of these games for the past four years. This is how dreams are shattered. The players choose the authorities with so much of hope, trust, and faith. It is unfair not just for the players but for our country. It’s a very high risk for the self-respect, pride, and dignity of our country. The federation has a greater responsibility with regards to the country and not just the players. Abha Chaudhary Society thrives on the glories of its successful people. Tales of men and women reaching the top of the ladder of social, economic or political success are passed down as legacies for the new generations to learn from. Amidst all the rumours about the two getting engaged soon, Ranbir dropped by Alia’s house late on Friday night, adding fuel to the fire. When we tried to zoom in our cameras, the actor was seen in conversion with Alia and her dad Mahesh Bhatt, seated by a window at the Bhatt house. News / Tribune/ Life & Style
Actor Zac Efron’s dreadlock look has made him face the heat on social media. Efron, 30, who has mostly been seen in his signature slicked-back hair, posted a picture of himself in his new dreadlock hairstyle. He captioned it: “Just for fun” on Instagram. However, his fans gave a mixed reaction. There were some who accused him of “cultural appropriation”. One comment read: “Damn if he would’ve gotten dreads and appreciated the culture behind it, it would’ve been okay, but I don’t even think he knows the culture behind it, plus the caption; ‘just for fun’, so now culture is something for fun?” Dreadlocks are associated most closely with the Rastafari movement, but people from many ethnic groups have worn them. Notably, the ancient Spartan warriors of Greece and the Sadhus of India and Nepal have also been wearing them. —IANS..
