News / Mid-Day/ News
Tokyo: The world's smallest baby boy, who was born in October in Japan weighing as much like an apple, is now ready for the outside world, his doctor said on Friday. Ryusuke Sekiya was delivered via emergency Caesarean section, after 24 weeks and five days of pregnancy as his mother Toshiko experienced hypertension. He weighed 258 grams. When Ryusuke was born on October 1, 2018, he measured 22 centimetres (8.66 inches) tall, and the medical staff kept him in a neonatal ICU. They used tubes to feed him, sometimes taking cotton swabs to apply his mother’s milk to his mouth. Nearly seven months later, the boy has grown 13 times in weight, now weighing over 3kgs. He will be released from Nagano Children's Hospital in central Japan over the weekend. Six-month-old Ryusuke Sekiya (C) is pictured with his parents one day before his scheduled discharge from a hospital in Azumino, Nagano prefecture on April 19, 2019. Ryusuke Sekiya was born on October 1, 2018, as the world's smallest bab..

Let's get the show on the coastal road, say Breach Candy locals

News / Mid-Day/ National
If it's Breach Candy, it must be the coastal road. It was a thunderous Thursday evening as locals, a majority from Breach Candy but several from Haji Ali, Warden Road and Nepean Sea Road, convened at Vaibhav building garden for a meeting. The hot button issue has divided the area, with one group called the Breach Candy Welfare Group protesting against the large number of trees to be cut at Tata Garden, for the project. The Welfare Group also wants the Breach Candy interchange to be shifted to Scandal Point (next to the garden) to save a portion of the garden from being sacrificed. This Thursday meeting though, "was more about support for the Coastal Road and development. We wanted a better understanding of the project," said Breach Candy chartered accountant (CA) Dr Mitil Chokshi, one of the organisers of the event. M Chokshi and R Jagtiani make a point Space ace Several residents first went to the terrace of Vaibhav building, where Executive Engineer (Coastal Road) Brihanmumbai Mu..

Siraj and 16 others were arrested in the case. Rafi succumbed to the injuries on April 10. Her death led to protests across Bangladesh with people on Thursday forming human chains and seeking justice for the victim. The protesters sought stern punishment for the murderers and expressed condolences to her family, the Dhaka Tribune reported. News portal bdnews24. com quoted police as saying that Siraj orchestrated the killing of Rafi from jail after his arrest on March 27 in the case. Garbage on the hawkers' menu

News / Mid-Day/ News
I was forwarded the infamous video of how "lime juice" is routinely prepared at Kurla by a number of people, all of whom had something to say about why we should be careful about what we eat or drink in public. I have been warned about this all my life, of course, right from school, when my mother would caution me about golawallahs and how I should never try a gola in my life. I did try the gola, obviously, along with everything else sold by vendors standing illegally outside my school and hawking everything from berries with salt to dubious ice cream and fruit salad concoctions. I haven't been that brave for decades now and am sure about going through the rest of my life without attempting to eat or drink anything from a vendor ever again. The video didn't shock me. I simply watched, like a few million other Bombayites, and forgot about it not long after. I also thought about an earlier video of another vendor caught making pani puri in a manner that was horrifying, and realized that..

MP Rajesh Ranjan aka don Pappu Yadav is 'Robin Hood' prince now

News / Mid-Day/ National
Aap bhi Pappu banke ladiye," he tells the crowd, which might be an odd twist to BJP's Narendra Modi slogan: "Mein bhi chowkidaar!" Except, Pappu isn't a derogatory reference to Congress chief Rahul Gandhi. That's the name five-time member of parliament, Rajesh Ranjan urf Pappu Yadav, 51, goes by, over the land - in and around Madhepura, in north-eastern Bihar - he surveys. Once a dreaded don, with close to 100 criminal cases registered against him, ranging from kidnapping, extortion to murder (as per his election affidavit), Pappu Yadav has served as lawmaker for six terms (he started out as an MLA) from these parts, and is the lay of the land himself. If anything, as opposed to Rahul's reputation of a reluctant, part-time politician, Pappu's name in the region, I notice, evokes awe rather than fear, for the sort of untiring, relentless effort he puts in to connect with his constituents all through the year - village after village, attending community functions, inaugurations, family..

High command did not act They may have the same name, but this Priyanka received very different treatment from Congress workers, than what the General Secretary of the AICC, Uttar Pradesh must be used to. Things moved fast on Friday after Chaturvedi, a Mumbai native with north Indian roots, sent her resignation to party President Rahul Gandhi, in protest of the reinstatement of her violators in the party's Mathura unit. The Congress workers, who were suspended for misbehaving with the national spokesperson, were taken back in the party fold ahead of the elections.
