Jawaharlal Nehru University is likely to open a new school for traditional music and dance, officials said. At the Academic Council of the university on Tuesday, a proposal for opening School of Indian Traditional Music and Dance, which will be devoted to the study of classical and traditional dance and music, was passed. The matter will now come up in the Executive Council meeting. However, the teachers' body expressed reservations about setting up of the new school. Meanwhile, the JNU Students' Union said its representatives were not invited to the Academic Council meeting which is against the rules, and threatened to approach the court again if the matter was not resolved. The JNU Teachers' Association said that the president of the teachers' body was invited but owing to some engagements, he nominated the secretary to attend the meeting in his place. Two held for manufacturing, transporting illegal firecrackers in Delhi

A 58-year-old factory owner and a tempo driver were arrested for allegedly manufacturing and transporting illegal firecrackers in Outer North Delhi's Narela, police said on Tuesday. The accused were identified as Rajkumar, a resident of East Punjabi Bagh and Deepak (30), a resident of Narela, they said. During patrolling on Monday, Deepak, who was driving the tempo, was arrested. He was transporting firecrackers in his tempo from a factory at E Block DSIIDC Narela to a godown of F-Block, Bhorgarh, a senior police officer said. On checking, the vehicle was found containing firecrackers in 45 sealed boxes concealed in plastic bags, they said. Later, police reached the factory and searched the three-storey building from where, they seized around 125 cartons of firecrackers, 10 machines for manufacturing them, around 400 bags of raw material and an acidic liquid, they said. A 39-year-old doctor having an account with scam-hit Punjab and Maharashtra (PMC) Bank allegedly committed suicide at her residence in the metropolis' Versova area, police said on Tuesday. An official, however, said police "did not think" the suicide was related to the crisis at PMC Bank and financial woes it had subjected thousands of depositors to. Some officials of the bank are accused of colluding with private firm HDIL to disburse loans fraudulently that ultimately caused a loss of Rs 4,355 crore to the lender, leaving depositors unable to withdraw large sums and in danger of losing their savings. Nivedita Bijlani (39), a doctor staying with her father in Versova's Model Town area, consumed a heavy dose of sleeping pills on Monday night, the official said. "The cause of the suicide is yet to be ascertained. She had an account in PMC Bank but we don't think it (death) was related to the crisis in the bank," he said. Representatives of the Jadavpur University global alumni body, will meet Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Wednesday, over the chain of incidents that took place during Union minister Babul Supriyo's visit to the institute last month. Childporn on international WhatsApp groups: CBI seizes huge porn material from Chennai-based accused

The CBI has claimed to have recovered huge amount of porn material from one of the seven Indian accused booked by the agency for being part of international WhatsApp groups circulating child sexual abuse content, a probe triggered by a tip-off from German investigators which had arrested a group member in that country. After registration of an FIR in September last week, the CBI had carried out searches at the residence of all the seven accused whose numbers were shared by the German authorities with the International Police Cooperation Cell of the agency, officials said. During the searches, the agency has recovered 11 mobile phones, two hard discs, 11 SIM cards, 2 memory cards and two pen drives which will be sent to electronic forensic evaluation, they said. The agency also claimed to have recovered a lot of porn material from one of the accused based in Chennai. Two bike-borne men snatched the mobile phone of a metropolitan magistrate in north Delhi's Kamla Nagar, police said on Tuesday. The magistrate is the latest victim in the string of snatching incidents in the national capital in a last few months. On Monday, the two bike-borne men snatched his mobile phone while he was standing outside his house, police said. A case under sections 356 (assault or criminal force in attempt to commit theft of property carried by a person) and 379 (punishment for theft) of the IPC has been registered, Deputy Commissioner of Police (north Delhi) Monika Bhardwaj said. "The victim was standing outside his house and talking over phone when suddenly two men on motorcycle arrived there and snatched his mobile phone," the senior police officer said.
